Lot of six items from the Grand Army of the Republic, the fraternal organization formed following the Civil War. Two pins say G.A. R. A delegate's badge to the 25th annual convention Ladies of the G.A.R. in Ithaca, New York, June 25,26,27 1918. A pin from the national encampment G.A.R. in San Francisco. A button from the G.A.R. Memorial Day, Auburn, New York. A brass medallion dated 1898 from the 32nd encampment at Cincinnati Sept. 5-10.



Founded in 1866 in Decatur, Illinois, the G.A.R. became one of the first advocacy groups in American politics, supporting voting rights for black veterans, helping to make Memorial Day a national holiday, lobbying Congress to establish veterans' pensions. It was dissolved in 1956 when its last member Albert Woolson (1847-1956) died.
