Extremely rare. Inc. in New York. No. 639, issued for 500 shares to Glendinning, Davis & Avory on Sept. 15th, 1870 in New York. Signed by president James Raymond and secretary William Raymond. Not cancelled. Green border and print with two different mining vignettes. Printed by Howe & Ferry, NY. 25 cent adhesive revenue stamps attached on the front and reverse. Pinholes, folds, some creasing. 7 x 10.25" Not in Filer or other Holabird indexes. Hollister discusses a Grass Valley Bar being located on South Clear Creek, 20 miles above Golden City (1867, pg. 70). An 1874 notice in the Daily Colorado Miner warns anyone from trespassing upon the land, mines, flumes, ditches, water power, and improvements of the Grass Valley Mining Company of Clear Creek County, John Scudder as agent. In Corbett's 1879 Directory, only one mine is listed in the Grass Valley Mining District.
