Lot of 19 stock certificates and checks from the Comstock Lode, NV era. 15 stock certificates including one issued by the Consolidated Virginia Mining Company dated 1880. Issued to Parsons/Trustee, 100 shares @ $100 each, signed by company Secretary (name illegible) and Cha. H. Fish/President. On reverse are stamped Wells Fargo bank dividend and assessment dates. Very rare. Consolidated Virginia originally owned by Silver King John Mackay who, with Silver Kings James Flood, James Fair and William O'Brien, bought up the land owned by Consolidated Virginia. Other stock certs by Con-Virginia Mining Co (successor to Consolidated Virginia) issued 1911, Chollar, Gould & Savage issued 1933, Ophir issued 1919, Union Consolidated issued 1927, Mexican issued 1911, and several other unissued certs from various mining enterprises. History records that the Silver Kings struck the Big Bonanza in 1873 which produced over $100 million of ore from 1873 - 1882. The Silver Kings' Bonanza Firm bought control of the adjoining Ophir and Mexican mines in 1877. Also, the Con-Virginia became the most successful mine in the Comstock and was one of the few to pay more in dividends than it levied in assessments. This impressive Comstock Lode collection concludes with an 1863 check issued on Stateler & Arlington , Bankers, an 1864 check issued on Wells Fargo & Co, a handwritten letter from Silver City/NV addressed to Sierra City/CA dated 1898, and a receipt for receival of gold & silver ore received from Gould & Curry Silver Mining Co, dated 1864.
