This is a Grossmann of Giessen side by side double barrel shotgun in 20 gauge. 49 in. overall length, 33.5 in. barrels. The barrels are octagon and the locks have been converted from flintlock to percussion, shown by the anchor hole in the forward lock-plate for mounting the frizzen spring. Barrels are tapered to the muzzle without swamping and balances nicely. The stock is European walnut, all hardware is original and brass; ferrules, trigger guard, buttplate. The stock and barrel are retained with a wedge and German silver oval inlay. The buttplate has a specific curvature that was fashionable in Europe. The barrels are highly polished with a consistent plum color as are the locks. C. 1780-1810, converted after 1810. In fine working order. The forward trigger is noticeably shorter than the back trigger for speed of finding that second trigger. Overall excellent condition. Please see photos for details. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm. No sales to New York, New Jersey, California, and Hawaii. No FFL required.
