Rare ribbon. Air Ships, Balloons, Amusements. Guide Aviation Camp. Jan. 10-20, 1910. Los Angeles, Cal. 9" x 2.5" This was called America’s first International Air Meet, conceived by A. Roy Knabenshue, pioneer inventor and pilot of balloons and dirigibles; and Charles F. Willard, an early student of Glenn Curtiss. Financed by air-minded businessmen, it was advertised as the first public flights west of the Rocky Mountains. The Wright Brothers declined to come. On Day 1, Glenn Curtiss flew for one and a half minutes and covered 5/8ths of a mile. William Randolph Hearst even took a ride with Frenchman Louis Paulhan.
