Issued February 15th, 1883 to S. A. Hendrickson for 500 shares. The Gunsight Mining Company located in the Meyer Mining District of Pima County, Arizona. Workings included shaft and tunnel operations. Prospected as early as the 1870s and reportedly produced some 15,000 tons of $40/ton Pb-Ag ore in 1881-1884. Signed by I. B. Baker as president and by Geo. Matthews as secretary. Nice vignette at upper right of numerous prospectors working a rock face. Black border with floral "buttons" and floral arrangements within the border, yellow safety print. The story is told the Gunsight mine was discovered by prospectors in 1878 and named because the nearby mountain looked like a gunsight. A post office was established in 1892, there were 8 buildings and 40 employees. The vein was over 4 feet wide, reached by a 340 foot shaft. It was the richest mine in the district. By 1896 the Post Office closed. (Ref: Mines Register,, 1922).
