Lot of 3. 1) Pictorial billhead for H.J. Thyes, Sole Dealer in Wm. J. Lemp Brewing Co's St. Louis Bottled Beer. Pictorial vignette of Wm. J Lemp logo. Dateline Reno, Nev., July 11, 1893. Billed to TH Johnston for 2 dozen bottles of Bass ale. 2) Letter for H.J. Thyes, Jobber and Retail Dealer in Wines, Liquors and Cigars, Washoe County Bank Building. "Finest Bar in the City/ Hot Lunch Daily." Dateline Reno, Nev., May 11th, 1899. To the Bullion & Exchange Bank regarding enclose money orders. Signed by Sol Hilp (father to a Reno druggist). 3) 1899 B& E Bank check to HJ Thyes, Secy., for $2.85. Signed on the reverse by Thyes. Herman Thyes came to California during the Gold Rush with his family. He came to Reno in the mid 1870s and worked for Elia Chielovich at the saloon the Wine House. In 1880, Thyes began his own saloon, liquor, and wine business under the name "Chase & Thyes." When he bought out his partner, it became known as the Crystal Saloon, HJ Thyes & Co.
