Lot of 2. Corner ad cover for H.A.W. Tabor's Pioneer Stage Line, Rockwood, Colorado, with contents. Postmark is a little smudged. Company letterhead datelined Rockwood, June 22, 1882. TC Sewall, General Manager. Message from Sewall to AW Hudson in Silverton. References holding off on trial until Sewall gets back. Also that Hudson should subpoena FA Schneider and wife at 10 Mile ("they know more about the wagon than any one."). According to 1882 newspaper articles, it appears there was an accident on the stage in January 1882 between Rico and Rockwood where people, including Chas. Johnston, were injured. Johnston intends to sue--the court case referenced in our letter? Horace (HAW) Tabor, known as The Bonanza King of Leadville and The Silver King, was a mining magnate who used his wealth to establish newspapers, a bank, the Tabor Opera House in Leadville, and the Tabor Grand Opera House and the Tabor Block in Denver. He also served as a US Senator for Colorado. Tabor and Wassaman purchased the stage line from Frederick Steineger in 1880. Stagecoach operations existed between Silverton and Animas Forks. In 1881, Tabor bought out Wasson and focused the traffic between Rockwood and Rico.
