Black Sox items include a ticket stub from Game 2 (Won by the Reds 4-2), a program from the 1919 World Series, an autograph of the journalist and writer Ring Lardner. A check issued to and endorsed by the person who instituted the fix Arnold Rothstein
World Series scandal in 1919 as the Chicago White Sox, heavy favorites to win the series over the Cincinnati Reds, but the Sox stunned the experts by losing the series 5-3 (There was a nine game series that year).
He was indicted but never convicted of fixing the 1919 World Series and always insisted that although he made some money gambling on the result, others, perhaps using his name, had actually compromised the Chicago White Sox players.
As or the players, they were acquitted. This didn't matter to the new commissioner of baseball, Kenesaw Mountain Landis who banned Shoeless Joe Jackson, Eddie Cicotte, Buck Weaver, Swede Risberg, Chick Gandil, Happy Felsch and Lefty Williams. Fred McMullin was also banned for life, even without a trial.
This is a very rare and controversial lot that is once in a lifetime. Please see photos for more details.
