John Joseph Evers was an American professional baseball second baseman and manager. He played in Major League Baseball from 1902 through 1917 for the Chicago Cubs, Boston Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies. Even though he was a Hall of Fame inductee, he is best known as the middle man in the Chicago Cubs double play combination immortalized in the poem "Baseball's Sad Lexicon" "Tinker-to Evers-to Chance.
