Stunning Haida hand embossed copper over wood chest. 13.75” x 24” x 14”. Northwest motifs (very like the totem design) of faces, hands, fish, birds, etc. Chest is lined in buckskin. Elaborate designs on Northwest Coast boxes and chests are highly stylized animal, bird or sea creatures. This chest was possibly made by Tom Price, who like other Ninstints carvers, places the emphasis on the upper parts of the face--eyes and eyebrows. One personal feature of his style is the V-shape to represent the cleft in the forehead. City: State: zBritish Columbia Date: c.20th century HWAC# 50575
