Obv.: Crescent City Athletic Club / (pictorial) / Amphitheatre; Rev.: Hall vs. Fitzsimmons / $40,000 / March 8th, 1893. White metal, 38 mm. It took champion Bob Fitzsimmons just 13 minutes to knock out Jim Hall, and it took Hall 45 minutes to regain consciousness after the fight. Bat Masterson was Hall's timekeeper and lost several thousand dollars on the fight. The arena was only half full because the promoters priced tickets at $10 instead of a more normal $3 price. When Fitzsimmons opened his pay envelope he found much less than the $37,500 he had been promised, so legal authorities were summoned and the Crescent City Athletic Club reached a settlement behind closed doors. The Olympic Club of New Orleans was the epicenter of boxing from 1883-1897.
