Hamilton is an abandoned mining town in western White Pine County, which "boomed" in 1868 and 1869 following the discovery of nearby silver ore deposits. When the ore deposits were found to be shallow in 1870, the region was already in decline. Hamilton's post office opened in 1868 and closed in 1931. The town was also the first county seat of White Pine County in 1869, but lost that designation to Ely in 1887.
