A collection of 12 different woven silk postcards, "Hands Across The Sea," circa 1900-15. They were made by Thomas Stevens in Coventry, England, and were called a Stevengraph. The company invented the manufacturing process. The cards were typically sold on board ocean liners, in the barber's shop. The sentimental nature of the design - the clasped hands and the crossed flags - appealed to emigrants in particular. Below the silk illustration "Woven in Silk," is printed, with the ships' names below, including: R.M.S. Virginian, R.M.S. Victorian, R.M.S. Metagama, R.M.S. Cymric, S.S. Celtic, R.M.S. Caronia (2 but they have different flags), R.M.S. Campania, R.M.S. Baltic, S.S. Arabic, R.M.S. Missanbie, and the R.M.S. Franconia. 2 postmarked, most with light foxing, some light staining, some with writing on backs, 1 with paper remnants from being in an album on back. Great collection. [ United Kingdom
