Signed by Knight and secretary Henry Le.. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Silver underprint with company name. Printed by Geo. B. Hitchcock & Co. One 25 cent adhesive revenue stamp is attached on the left border. Folds, piece missing from upper left corner, small paper residue on reverse back corner. 5.5 x 9.75" According to Balch (1882), "the Happy Camp Hydraulic Mining Company are running their mine night and day with two pipes." He describes Happy Camp as being located in the SE corner of the county on the Klamath River, with "large areas of auriferous gravel." "Considerable river bed mining has been done with profit during the past season along both the Klamath and Smith Rivers by means of wing damming; a dam is constructed half way across the river and then continued down the stream to any desired distance thus turning the whole body of water into one half of its channel."
