This collection consists of one box (one cubic foot) full of six binders, perhaps 1000+ documents. These binders primarily consist of correspondence between Moss and various mining companies that he worked with in the 1930s. The company that appears most frequently in this collection is the Arnold Exploration Company. As the name implies, this company was involved in exploring properties with potential mining value in Montana and adjacent territories. Correspondence between Moss and individuals associated with the Arnold Exploration Company dominate this collection. Some of these individuals include Ralph Arnold (president), Charles McKinnis (vice president), Frank Banks, Henry Dittes, and J.R. Puckett. Moss was responsible for conducting preliminary examinations and writing reports on the properties that they were interested in. Some properties and areas that are discussed frequently in this correspondence include the Wickes Consolidation, the York Mining District, the Meadow Creek Placer, the Canyon Creek Placer, the Federal Gold property, Ophir Gulch, and many others. There are also copies of some of the reports that Moss wrote on these properties. While most of the correspondence in this collection is related to the Arnold Exploration Company, some other companies appear including American Western Mines, Inc. and Douglas Creek Placer Mining Company. Besides correspondence, this collection includes a few mining claim maps, mostly from Montana. Please see our online catalog for more details. [Theresa Nielson]
