This lot has two covers from the Harper's Weekly newspaper. The first, dated July 8, 1881 is an etching depicting the assassin firing a British Bulldog at President James Garfield in the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad station in Washington D.C. The second cover is dated December 10, 1881 an etching depicting a cartoon of the assassin Charles Guiteau in a court of law. Guiteau would be hanged in 1882 and the Bulldog pistol is still unaccounted for after being donated to the Smithsonian Institute. Slightly colored, 10.75 in. X 16 in. no foxing. Ready for framing.
