Upright grand piano by E.G. Harrington, New York, serial number 27189. Using online resources, this dates the piano to approximately October of 1901. The company was founded in 1871, and in 1900 became affiliated with Hardman, Peck & Co, which continued to manufacture pianos with the Harrington name along with several others. Harrington pianos continued to be produced until 1960, and they were considered moderately priced with superior qualities as a musical instrument as well as highly regarded for the design and construction of the cases. They were frequently found in places of public entertainment. On this piano, every key sounds and the soft and sustain pedals both function. Not sure what the center pedal actually does on this particular instrument.

Overall dimensions are 64 inches wide and 57 inches tall. The upper cabinet is 17 inches deep, the sidearms (supporting the keyboard) are 28 inches deep, and the top of a 39 x 17-inch hinged panel facing the player will tip back to support sheet music. The entire upper front board can easily be lifted out and removed. There is also a double-hinged cover for the keyboard. The dark wood of the cabinet appears to be walnut or similar. There are some nicks and dings, but there is very little damage on the cabinet. Many of the keys are discolored. See photos for design and condition details.

The iron frame, pin block, soundboard, and interior action are all relatively clean with only a small amount of dust, indicating that this instrument has been cared for relatively recently. The most recent service date recorded on an interior sticker is September of 1999. The sticker names Sebastopol Piano Shop in Sebastopol, California (which is apparently still in business). As with any piano, this one will require tuning after it is moved, and you are welcome to call ahead and schedule a time to inspect and play this instrument in our office during regular business hours.
