Lot of two stocks issued in 1819. No. 945 and 948, both issued for one share to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Signed by Benjamin Reynolds as president and the treasurer (illegible). Neither cancelled. Both transferred with pen notations on the reverse in 1879. 12.5 x 7.75" and 8.75 x 7.75" Toning, ripped and chipped corners. This toll road was part of the Pittsburgh Pike, an early toll road. The road was chartered as the Harrisburg and Pittsburgh Turnpike in 1805, and completed on May 20, 1818. In 1814, the company was split into five sections, including this one. It allowed travelers to go from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania over the Allegheny Mountains.
