Spencer Penrose (1865-1939), a famous mine promoter and financier, was a son of a prominent Philadelphia physician, who graduated Harvard, but worked as a fruit salesman.1892 he opened a real estate office in Cripple Creek in partnership with Charles Tutt, they promoted the districts most prominent mines. He also promoted the town Gilllett, partnered up with mine owner Winfried Stratton and built the famous Broadmor Hotel in Colorado Springs.
