By authority from the United States Treasury Department, this hard bound pocket edition (4 1/2 x 7 inches) was copyright 1877 and published in 1881. Illustrated with proof impressions printed from original engraved plates, this manual was used to recognize counterfeit currency in the 19th century. This volume is in excellent condition with all proofs intact.

The author, Laban Heath of Boston, Massachusetts, obtained Congress's approval to use actual Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) plates in 1864. That book is entitled"Heath’s Counterfeit Detector at Sight" as a pocket edition. Heath also published a Banking and Counting House Edition.
