Lot of 2. Incorp. State of Michigan 1864. #105 and 116, U/U, shares $25 ea. Black border and writing, two vignettes : Michigan State Seal right side, top center train passing mine bldgs. Receipts attached, #104 is missing the upper left corner of receipt. Henry Seibert & Bros. printer. Other than noted certi are in unissued cond, no pin holes , no staining, some browning around the edges.
The mine was located in Winona, Greenland Township, Ontonagan County. AKA Douglass Houghton Mine. Orig. opened in 1846 as the Douglass Houghton Mining Co. as one of the first mines in the Flintsteel River area. By 1864 30 tones of copper had been produced, the mine was sold and renamed the Henwood working until the 1870ís producing 45 tons of copper. Michigan Ken Prag Collection
