High-grade fluorite-gold ore from the 200-foot level of the Thanksgiving Mine near Manhattan, Nye County, Nevada, approx 110 x 85 x 70 mm. Massive quartzite piece with druzy quartz and purple fluorite crystals grown in the cracks and vugs. Black specks seen under the lens are identified as tellurides by the original collector who claims that these sweat gold when heated, however this describer has not tested that. The Thanksgiving Mine opened on the lower west side of Mustang Hill in about 1910 as a low producer with a 450-foot incline shaft and an 80-foot vertical shaft. It has seen subsequent de-watering and re-sampling into the 1940s, however no significant production has occurred there (WesternMiningHistory.com).
