High-grade gold-bismuth ore from the January Mine near Goldfield, Esmeralda County, Nevada, approx 75 x 85 x 45 mm. Massive quartzite piece with abundant dark grey mineralization, possibly argentite -- a silver sulfide. Under a hand lens, needle-like dark crystals appear in the quartz, possibly goldfieldite -- a copper-tellurium sulfide -- identified by the original collector. Flecks of gold are visible under the lens along with druzy quartz. Original collector also identified famatinite -- a copper-antimony sulfide. The January Mine was a small producer known for gold, silver, and antimony that began as a lease in 1904 and produced at least a million dollars worth of metal before being consolidated in a merger creating the Goldfield Consolidated Mines in 1906 (mindat.org).
