This piece of high-grade gold ore comes from the Buckhorn Mountain Mine in north-central Washington state, just south of the U.S. border with Canada. It most recently operated for nine years under Kinross Gold Corp. which closed the facility in 2017 after producing nearly 34 tons of gold worth $1.3 billion. Reclamation work is underway. This specimen is about 3.75 x 2.25 x 0.75 inches and weighs approx. 163.3 grams. Visible gold is easily visible with a hand lens.
