Ellendale is a present-day ghost town in Nye County, Nevada, about 30 miles east of Tohopah. From discovery in 1909 by 29-year-old Ellen Nay, the mines in Ellendale produced ore valued at $720 a ton in 1910. By 1912 the mines were essentially exhausted, and the heyday was over. This high-grade specimen comes from the Ellendale Mine and is approximately 2 x 1.5 x 0.25 inches, weighing 21.3 grams, and it has visible gold specks that glint in the light. A rare piece of Nevada mining history right there.
