Two slabs of high-grade gold ore from the Sunnyside Mine located in Eureka Gulch north of Silverton, Colorado. This is the mine made famous by the collapse of a working stope beneath Lake Emma, which completely drained the lake, scoured out the mine workings, and filled the mine with silt. On the other side of the valley sat the Gold King Mine, itself famous for a release of 3 million gallons of pent-up acid mine water into the South Fork of the Animas River in 2015. These two specimens have clearly visible gold in white quartz matrix along with dark gray silver sulfide, probably argentite or acanthite. Labeled slab is approx 2.5 x 2 x 0.1 inches and 12.9 grams, and the other slab is about 3 x 2 x 0.2 inches and 45.9 grams.
