Like many other mining towns, Hilltop was built on the promise of riches that disappeared almost as quickly as it formed. The area that later became known as Hilltop was first known as Marble City. Marble City was formed in the 1860s to provide a place for weary travelers to rest. Mining in the surrounding area didn't take place until many years later in the 1880s, but it wasn't until 1906 that prospectors discovered ore that caused a small boom to the area. Within a few years the town boasted a population of over 200 people and its own post office. But within in a few decades, the mines became empty and Hilltop was reduced to a ghost town. This token was for the Hilltop House. It is good for 12.5c in trade, 21 mm, round, brass. NCS 5106464-008.
