Lot contains two collections of special California/San Francisco area stamps, with 162 in a booklet, Shine for '39; and 26 commemorating California landmarks, copyright 1914, Volland Poster Stamp Co., Chicago. California stamps are 1-1/2 x 2 inch with colorful prints depicting famous places, such as the Greek Theatre in Berkley, Lake Merritt in Oakland, Stanford University in Palo Alto, 12 of the California missions, and more. The Shine for '39 booklet, copyright 1938 by R. L. Robbins, Jr., titled, "The Postamp Pageant of San Francisco," asked customers to visit merchant sponsors and pick up stamps to fill the book. Most of this book has been filled.
