The History of United States Coinage as Illustrated by the Garrett Collection by Q. David Bowers. Hard cover, 572 pages, published by Bowers & Ruddy Galleries for Johns Hopkins University, 1979. T. Harrison Garrett, whose family managed the Baltimore & Ohio railroad, began collecting in the mid-1860s. His sons, Robert & John Work Garrett added to the holdings until 1942. Fabulous historic numismatic reference work on American coinage. March 1981, Bowers & Ruddy completed its
record-setting series of four auctions featuring the Garrett Collection. The sale of this collection realized a total of $25 million, a record at the time.
