History of the Columbia River Valley from the Dalles to the Sea. Fred Lockley. First edition, 1928. Three illustrated volumes, each 10.5" x 7.5", with minor wear on spines and corners, otherwise very good. Includes: Vol. I, 1105 pp.; Vol. II, 994 pp.; and Vol. III, 941 pp. Lockley was a journalist best known for his editorial column published in the Oregon Journal, "Impressions and Observations of a Journal Man." Lockley authored many books which, like his editorials, were largely about his travels and interviews with early settlers in the Willamette Valley. It was said that he interviewed "bullwhackers, muleskinners, pioneers, prospectors, 49ers, Indian fighters, trappers, ex-barkeepers, authors, preachers, poets and near-poets." [ Oregon
