Framed (37 x 13 inches) panoramic black and white photograph of the lumber mill and railroad years of Hobart Mills. Brass label reads: "Hobart Mills, California/ Donated by Demar Dundas".
Stanley Demar Dundas was born on September 16, 1930 in Hobart Mills, graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1948, and soon married the love of his life, Mary Grace Bertino, on March 5, 1949. He spent many years as the General Manager at Lawsman Lumber, as a truck driver for Robinsonís Logging, and as a seasonal Snow Fighter for Caltrans. Stanley Demar Dundas passed away in 2018, at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. He was 87. His reminiscences of Hobart Mills can be found online. The post office at Hobart Mills operated from 1900 until 1938. Hobart Mills continued as a town, a society, and a lumber mill until 1936. The remaining structures were slowly sold off over the next few years, ending over 60 years of the Hobart lumber empire. The Hobart Mills forests, still thriving with second growth trees were sold to the US Forest Service.
