Autographed, signed letter written by A. D. Hodges, Jr. on half-sheet letterhead of the Lyon Mill and Mining Co., Dayton, Lyon County, Nevada, April 16, 1875, regarding waste from Virginia & Truckee wood cuttings, interest in Peavine mines, etc. The 1873 Virginia & Truckee Railroad Directory lists A. D. Hodges as Assayer at Birdsall & Co.’s mill in Dayton. According to Daniel Webster's book, Mills Along the Carson River, the mill was originally the Birdsall Mill, converted in 1869 to a tailings mill, and renamed Lyon Mill & Mining Co. The mill was later sold to J. M. Douglass of Virginia City and had its own narrow-gauge railroad, the Dayton Sutro & Carson Valley Railroad, 1881-1896.
