This group of four talented ladies include Marion Davies, Marie Wilson, Virginia Mayo and Cher. Four inscribed and autographed 8 x 10-inch glossies, sure to add class to your collection. Included are comic actress Marie Wilson (1916-1972), born Katherine Elizabeth Wilson, was best known for playing Irma Peterson in the radio (1947), film (1949) and television (1952-1954) versions of My Friend Irma (1949) and its 1950 film sequel, My Friend Irma Goes West. A former Broadway dancer, Wilson made her film debut in the 1934 Laurel & Hardy film, Babes in Toyland, before signing a contract with Warner Bros. Next, we have the sometimes controversial Marion Davies (1897-1961), an American actress whose relationship with William Randolph Hearst was thinly fictionalized in Orson Welles' classic film Citizen Kane (1941). Featured on Broadway in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1916, Davies made her screen debut in Runaway Romany (1917). While not a great actress, she possessed good comic and musical skills. The Hearst newspapers praised her performances extravagantly, while rival newspapers reacted by panning her. Next is Virginia Mayo (1920-2005) who performed on ballet and vaudevilles stages and in chorus lines before entering films. She starred in comic roles opposite Bob Hope (The Princess and the Pirate, 1944) and in four Danny Kaye films, including Wonder Man (1945). Some of her performances might be described as campy, including her Cleopatra in The Story of Mankind (1957) and King Richard and the Crusaders. The latter includes her line, "Fight, fight, fight. That's all you ever do, Dick Plantagenet!" She delivered critically praised performances as the unfaithful wife of returning war veteran Dana Andrews in The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) and as gangster James Cagney's gun moll in White Heat (1949). Finally, on a more contemporary level, we have Academy Award Winner Cher. She started out as half of the very successful singing team, along with her then husband, Sonny Bono, Sonny & Cher. They had a very successful television show before she decided to go into films. These signatures are clear. Please see photos for more detail and detail and condition.
