This is a right handed loop holster for a large frame Colt Single Action Army (SAA) or similar framed revolver with a 4 1/2 in. barrel. The maker is Felipe J. Villaescusa of Tucson, Arizona while still a Territory about 1980-1899. His saddlery shop was on the corner of Meyer Street and Jackson Streets. Mr. Villaescusa was an astute businessman by moving his saddlery shop next to the blacksmith shop. His business expanded to include other leather goods including holsters. This one is very well made with a liner to protect the finish of the gun, it has flower pattern leather tooling, the loop strap is flat rivetted, all of this border-stitched by machine. There are two small holes at the top of the holster for a leather loop strap to secure the gun hammer that is now missing. The Felipe J. Villaescusa leather stamp is presented in two places; a cartouche on the holster and a two line on the strap. The initials "AG" are hand carved into the loop strap. The overall condition of the holster is very good with most of the cloth stitching missing but may be restored with some craftsmanship. This holster can be restored to its former glory and reused for cowboy action shooting or similar activity.
