Featured in several correspondence pieces and story (prospectus) is CE McHugh, Mgr., Homestake Extension Mining Co., Black Hills, South Dakota. They begin, "If you'll only come to Deadwood with me" a great invitation! In it he tells his story. Very humorous and telling of his certainty of the mine. "Along in December,1885, there was an old Irishman by the name of Billings came to me, and he says, 'Mac, there is some pretty good ground where the assessment work has not been kept up, and I think it is open for re-location.' "Along some time during the latter part of the month billings and I rode out and looked over the ground, and I could see the grass growing in the holes; so that was enough for me, and as all ground is open for re-location on the first of January, I made arrangements with Billings to keep up the assessment work, should we locate, and I to furnish him money to live on--in other words, 'grub-staked' him." The story goes on and it is great. 9.25" x 3.75", bound in a kraft paper cover with McHugh's photo in oval cut-out. Also included are: 4 postcards with McHugh's pictures; a letter to stockholders of the Homestake Gold Mining Co.; a report of the Homestake, 1916. 10.25" x 7.75", 24 p. bound in soft cover; a letter from Westerfield, gen'l mgr. on Homestake, 1900.
