A typed letter signed by former First Lady Lou Henry Hoover's secretary, Edith Harcourt. The letter is addressed to Mr. R. R. Stephens, Clinton, Mo., in response to his request for Mrs. Hoover's autograph. Harcourt states that she has enclosed the card (no longer with the letter). Parchment paper 5.5" x 8.5". Fine. Lou Hoover supported women's rights throughout her life. She was a philanthropist, geologist and, as the wife of President Herbert Hoover, First Lady from 1929 to 1933. She was active in community organizations and volunteer groups, including the Girl Scouts of the USA, which she led from 1922 to 1925 and again from 1935 to 1937.
