This Howland Flat Collection includes a wide assortment of historic pictures and memorabilia from Howland Flat: 1x Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) certificate for William James, from the Summit Lodge No. 127, dated December 11, 1886. This is a stunning example of printing, with multiple vignettes and highly stylized and ornate borders and is a must to inspect. Folds; 2x picture of Howland Flat School, dated 1898, showing F.M. Sullivan, teacher, Annie McDonnell, Mary McDonnell, Tom McDonnell and Mike McDonnell; 1x handwritten recipe for Carrot Pudding, written on Peter L. Carmichael - Dealer in Fresh and Salt Meats - letterhead. Undated. Folds; 2x Sierra County tax receipts, one for tailings claims on Slate Creek, No. 434, the other for mining claims in Howland Flat, No. 1229; 3x receipt sheet from Hayes Bros., Howland Flat, Sierra Co., Cal., unused. One loose, two are still bound. Folds, some chipping; 1x 1868 list of values for the I.O.O.F. lodges at Table Rock, Alturas, Pilot Peak, an Summit. Special Note: Jann Garvis, author of 'Roar of the Monitors', has noted that the lodges are Howland Flat, La Porte, Gibsonville, and St. Louis. Folds; 1x Superior Court of Sierra County Summons, for WM. H. Proseus and Orlando Phippin (plaintiffs) v. The Midas Gold Mining Company corporation, No. 529, with handwritten note stating "Cox writes this was served to him August 15, 1889"; 1x receipt for George Cox, in which he received a cash advance from the Midas Mine in 1895; 1x stock certificate from the Pacific Gold Mining Company, certificate No. 1, datelined Howland Flat, Cal, February 25, 1884, issued to Philip Doray(?) for 1000 shares.
