Perhaps 400 original photos and photo post cards of Alaska and the Arctic. Bernard Rosecrans Hubbard (1888-1962) was a geologist and explorer who was thought to be the highest paid lecturer in the world at one time. He was chair of Geology at the University of Santa Clara, made 31 expeditions to Alaska and the Arctic during his well known career. Published in National Geographic and elsewhere. Certainly one of the highlights of the Salvatore Falcone Collection of San Jose. The photos include a wide variety of Native life, as well as striking outdoor scenes. Hubbard brought the Arctic right into mainland America with his lectures, introducing this fabulous wild land to thousands of Americans.
