HK 379. R-6. Minted by Tiffany and Company in sterling silver, designed by artist Chester Beach, this Commissioners' Badge is in it's original case. The medallion is about one and a half inches in diameter, suspended from an orange, white and blue ribbon (the colors under which Hendrik Hudson sailed), which when worn was suspended from a silver bar bearing the word "Commissioner," and all of which was backed by a broad blue ribbon about six inches long. The obverse portraits of Hudson and Fulton, surrounded by the legend: "Henry Hudson 1609. Robert Fulton. 1807, and the date of the celebration, 1909. The reverse features a standing, draped, female figure, wearing a winged cap, and holding a model of the Half Moon ship in her right hand and in her left hand a model of the Clermont steamboat. The medal weighs 54.2 grams and is 37 mm. State: New York City: Date: 1909
