Three original letters (autographed letters, signed) written by Washoe County Pioneer, Granville W. Huffaker (1831-1892). Datelined Washoe County, Nevada, 1872-1875. Content is regarding loading Virginia & Truckee Railroad cars, freight rates, etc. G. W. Huffaker was born in Kentucky, drove cattle from Salt Lake City to the Truckee Meadows in 1850s, and sold beef to the miners in the early days of the Comstock. Huffaker’s Ranch was seven miles below Reno. In 1871, Huffaker's became a station on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. From 1875 to 1880, Huffaker's was the terminus of the 15-mile Bonanza V-flume constructed by Mackay and Fair’s Pacific Wood, Lumber & Flume Company. An historical marker cites Huffaker's as “the first community ever established in the Truckee Meadows.” G. W. Huffaker was Washoe County Treasurer 1874-1876. His imposing two-story house still stands on South Virginia Street. State: Nevada City: Reno, Washoe County Date: 1872-1875
