152 Humorous cowboy/Indian post cards with 20 duplicates. These cards are illustrated by Hoke Denetsosie, a Navajo artist. He illustrated postcards for “Dude” Larsen cards. He was born in 1919 on the Navajo Reservation near Arizona and lived much of his life in Tuba City. He attended and graduated from the Indian School in Phoenix. With writer Ann Nolan Clark he illustrated books about Navajo children including the "Little Herder" series. Denetsosie painted ten mural panels in Scottsdale for the Arizona Craftsmen Building. He also worked as a visual aid employee and logger. Hoke Denetsosie died at age 98 on October 21, 2016 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth in March 2016. Burial was at the family plot at Gap, Arizona. Hoke was a well-known and respected artist both in the United States and abroad. He taught art and Navajo culture at the Navajo Community College and illustrated many books. Brian Thaler Collection
