Three unissued five forint (Ot Forint) notes, and four One Forent notes (Egy Forint) from the 1800s, signed by Lajos Kossuth. One 2 forint (Ket Forint) note. Two one forint notes from February 182 This remainder note is a link to the fund raising campaigns in the United States of Hungarian patriot, Lajos Kossuth, who participated in the failed Hungarian rebellion of 1848. When he moved to the U.S. in 1851 for a brief time, he lived with Hungarian political refugees who had established the community of New Buda in Decatur County, Iowa. Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. Philadelphia lithographer. Kossuth's powerful English and American speeches so impressed and touched the famous contemporary American orator Daniel Webster, that he wrote a book about Kossuth's life. He was widely honored during his lifetime, including in Great Britain and the United States, as a freedom fighter and bellwether of democracy in Europe. Kossuth's bronze bust can be found in the United States Capitol with the inscription: Father of Hungarian Democracy, Hungarian Statesman, Freedom Fighter, 1848-1849.
