Large volume and accompanying published brief regarding George Atkinson vs Amador and Sacramento Canal Co., an 1870s lawsuit. This suit involves an approximate 120 acre farm/ranch established in 1859, and sold or transferred twice up to 1870. In the early 1870's, The Amador and Sacramento Canal Co. or water lessors thereof, began hydraulic mining on ground significantly higher in elevation, draining through Arkansas Creek, a tributary to the Consumnes River. The massive flow of hydraulic mining flooded and covered Atkinson's land making it unusable. This case is a classic case that led to the outlawing of hydraulic mining. One volume of pleadings, evidence, etc. is dated 1878, and is 4" thick with no binding; accompanied by two similarly dated smaller pleadings. Excellent research material.
