#9 for 25 shares to Cyril Hawkins on May 14, 1863. RARER dateline of Aurora, Mono Co., Cal. Signed by secretary Hawkins and president William Tyler. Three vignettes: Native American with rifle, mill and beehive. Has a RARE version of the 25c internal revenue stamp, an imperforated "warehouse Recpt. (R50a). Red safety design background; otherwise black and white. Printed by Agnew & Deffebach of San Francisco. Hawkins travelled west to join his brother Austin in the summer of 1851. He was quite active in California and later in Nevada when an accurate survey showed Aurora to be in the Nevada Territory. Cyril would be in the first class of the Nevada state assembly. Tyler was also a California mining man who would find his way to Aurora. This mine is named for the Canadian town where he grew up. He would eventually settle down in Kern County. Short biographies of both are included.
