Suite of three General Land Office Maps from 1848, 1850, and 1852, each roughly 14 x 24". Though this is considered upper Mississippi Valley, the surveyor here has no indication of metal mines but does show at least one salt works. E. R. Conway was the surveyor on the 1848 map, which does show several dozen towns. By 1850, Illinois had become well populated at over 850,000. The 1850 map reverts to the standard GLO style of only showing township survey progress, and here shows only a few towns and no rivers. M. L. Clark was the surveyor. The 1852 map, also by Clark, shows more towns, and has put back in significant rivers, but not to the extent of the 1848 map.
