Hardcover bound, The Illustrated London News, July-December 1914. Ex Cecil B. De Mille library. Cecil B. DeMille was called "The Master of the Biblical Epic" and was one of the founding fathers of the studio system in Hollywood, when he, Jesse Laskey and Samuel Goldwyn founded the first production company in "Tinsel Town" called Laskey Famous Players" in 1913. Their first film "The Squaw Man" was also the first film shot in an old barn on Selma and Vine. When Laskey moved on to form Paramount Pictures, DeMille was his main director, helming such spectacles as "The Ten Commandments (1923 & 1956), "King of Kings," (1927) "Cleopatra," (1934) and many more. DeMille had a home on Adams Blvd in Los Angeles and these books came from his private library.This binding is a gorgeous gilt and black on red. De Mille might have browsed these volumes for themes in his movies. This volume includes The Tragedy of Sarajevo which led to the start of World War 1, life on board a naval warship, British marine airships, Invaders and defenders of Belgium etc. 16.5x12.25". Binding is broken away from bound contents. Foxing on both fly leafs. Please inspect.
