Vignette of George Washington on a reared up horse. Incorporated on March 18, 1869; capitalized at $2,000,000; 20,000 shares at $100 per. Black border and print. Uncancelled. Printer - C. Printed around the vignette are the names of the lodes with the total length, these include “Independence, 6000 ft; Vallejo, 800 ft; Glengarry, 1000 ft; Bernadotte, 1000 ft; Black Prince, 1000 ft and Edward Everett, 1000 ft.” Printed at top “Treasure Hill, White Pine Mining District, Nevada.” In less than two years, over 13,000 claims were located on Treasure Hill; most of them were never worked. By 1868, Treasure Hill’s population swelled to 6,000. Probably as much as $20 million in silver was mined by 1880 (Paher). Twenty-five cent revenue stamp affixed at the left. Very fine.
