Independence model by the Ellis Mill Co., San Francisco, patent date Feb. 19, 1924, Reportedly from the Redding area, which would have been the Shasta gold-copper region. This mill is 30" diameter at the base, 23" diameter at the top, cast iron, in three pieces plus the large iron "ball-bearings" (there are 5 and there should be 7), about 3' tall. We couldn't find any information on this San Francisco Company. The information is embossed into the metal. The mill appears to be used to crush small rock (probably 1" minus) into a coarse powder for processing and precious metal removal. Date: Location: HWAC# 59377
