Indian Maiden Beer. Spectacular beer advertising painting on canvas. 32 x 44", framed. Text inside the painting reads "Now serving at the Oasis/ Indian Maiden Beer" and in the lower left corner reads "William Tilghman proprietor/ Dodge City." Lower right corner signature "J. R. Mass". At center is an Indian maiden standing on top of a rock in the middle of a river with her canoe sticking out the right side behind the rock. This painting is a wonderful painting indicating that Indian Maiden Beer was served by Mr. Tilghman at his saloon in Dodge City, circa 1882, when the brothers were present. While this painting was sold by another auction gallery as original, it may not be. We could not find a trademark patent for Indian Maiden Beer, nor could we find anything whatsoever on a JR Mass at or near Dodge City around the early 1880's. We believe this painting was done about 1920 or later. It may it may have hung at Parker Lyon's Pony Express Museum or an equivalent tourist-based wild west saloon. It is the kind of thing that was used in an early western saloon to attract tourists to remind them and educate the public about the west. This is exactly the kind of thing that would've hung from the walls of one of those early tourist honky-tonk saloons. It as a choice advertising piece nonetheless. State: City: HWAC#: 49131 Date:
